Waste of Time September 3, 2010 xRadicalx I bought this trying to connect my Laptop to my TV, for games and movie viewing. This is meant for Older TVs, and the picture quality was horrible and you couldn't read anything on the screen. I was very dissatisfied. If you are looking to connect your laptop to an old TV via RCA, I would look elsewhere. It's a piece of junk.
works good but mayb i would pay more 4 sound August 31, 2010 keith picture quality is very nice! no down grades there... but the sound comes out of my comp still.... if i could go back i might upgrade to the one that does sound too
Does very well for me August 27, 2010 Cahill2005 I have now used this product many times, and it has functioned perfectly each time. I would recomend this product to anyone.
MEH -- Nothing to get excited about. August 19, 2010 Stephen Herzberg (Houston, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My new MacBook Pro does not stream analog video. Neither my Denon 2106 nor my TV will take HDMI. So, I needed a converter box. And, this is the one I got.
On the positive side, the conversion box comes with all of the cables one needs. First, a male to male VGA to connect the box to the Apple VGA converter. Then, a USB cable to power the box. And, finally, S video and component video cables.
On the negative side, the instructions, though in English are totally incomprehensible. And, to make matters worse -- there is no manufacturer anywhere on the box or in the instructions. So, there is no one to call for help. YOYOMF.
This is a do it by hunch set up, but I can save all of you some time by telling you that the box comes set for PAL. To use it on NTSC, you have to push both of the dip switches down. The incomprehensible instructions don't say a word about this. I learned that the switches had to be reset by reading a review on Amazon. But, unfortunately, the poster did not say how they should be configured. So, push them both down.
Another thing -- my set up only works with the component cable for video. For some reason, the S video, going into my Denon 2106 did not work. No problem, at least I have it working.
Another issue -- the instructions don't tell how to use any of the buttons -- they mention pushing them but really never tell when or why.
If you get flickering when you turn everything on, push the zoom button. It will remove it.
And, the arrow buttons help you place your picture on the TV.
My biggest unresolved issue is how to set my monitor resolution on my MacBookPro so as to get the right size image on both the computer and the TV. The computer seems to default to a setting that is not quite right -- and I don't know enough about screen size to get it just right. Any advice here will be deeply appreciated.
So, bottom line -- it works. It's not high quality and it's not elegant but it works. My MBP is really set up to go to a better tuner and/or TV or monitor. Dumbing down the output has its costs. I might like this a little better had there been comprehensible instructions.
Sound is a big problem August 1, 2010 Ervin W. Schrader (ABQ NM) I have an old Sony laptop and a old 36 inch TV. Once I figured how get the TV to use its video setting it was an easy install except for the sound. I hooked up the yellow cable into the corresponding audio port on the TV, but no sound. I could hear the sweaking sound on the Laptop, but that won't do. I have tried everything that I know, but no sound. Since I am working with old stuff I decided the only thing I can do is use some good external speakes on my old laptop and go that way. Neither one has a AV setting.
Over all I think it is a good cheap way to go.
